There are wedding days that look beautiful, and then there are wedding days where every beautiful thing feels connected to the people at the center of it. Kerstin and Sawyer’s wedding at The Golf Club at Newcastle was very much the second kind!

They’re both naturally pretty shy, wildly in love, and deeply connected to their people. They planned a day that gave them room to actually experience what they’d worked so hard to put together, while filling it with pieces of their history and the things they genuinely love. And yes, that included golf. Obviously.

A Seattle Love Story That Started online.

Kerstin and Sawyer met on Hinge during the pandemic, which feels extremely on-brand for a modern Seattle love story. They both now work in the Seattle tech world, but spent over a year doing long-distance between the West and East Coasts after getting engaged, and eventually built a life together with their dog and cat firmly included in the family unit.

Family sits at the center of their relationship, and you could feel that throughout their wedding. Guests traveled from across the country and around the world to celebrate with them, and Kerstin and Sawyer were incredibly intentional about spending time with the people who’d made that effort.

At one point, they even skipped sitting down for their own dinner so they could make their way around the reception and take a photo with every table. That tells you pretty much everything you need to know about them.

A Wedding Day Designed to Be Lived

The day began with getting ready and details before moving into their first look, portraits, and family photos. From the beginning, Kerstin and Sawyer had a clear vision for what they wanted their photographs to feel like. They cared about creating beautiful images, but they also wanted the moments behind those images to be real experiences they could enjoy together. That balance is my favorite place to work.

We can absolutely plan the hell out of a great photograph. We can think about the light and choose the right location ahead of time. But once we’re there, I want you to actually be in it together. Kerstin and Sawyer trusted that process completely!

Making Golf Part of the Story

Choosing The Golf Club at Newcastle wasn’t just about having a gorgeous backdrop. Golf is something Kerstin and Sawyer genuinely enjoy together, so we knew it needed to become part of the day in a way that felt like them. After their ceremony, they built in an extended cocktail hour that gave us time for some actual putt-putt.

And when I say actual, I mean they weren’t standing there holding clubs for thirty seconds so we could check “golf photos” off a list. They got to play, hang out together, and enjoy a part of their relationship that already existed long before the wedding day!

The setting also gave us room to create some bigger portraits that showed off Newcastle and the surrounding city views without losing Kerstin and Sawyer inside the scenery. The environment mattered to them, so it became part of the story instead of simply acting as a pretty background.

Three Dresses and Absolutely No Notes

Now, we need to discuss Kerstin’s style. She had three dress changes throughout the day, multiple pairs of Jimmy Choos, and somehow managed to make every single look feel completely timeless. Iconic behavior!

Her main gown from Hayley Paige set the tone beautifully, and Seattle Floral Design carried that same polished feeling into the florals. Kimika Glam completed the look with hair and makeup that felt equally refined. Every detail had been thought through, but the end result never felt overly curated. Kerstin could still move, celebrate, and fully throw herself into the day…which became especially important once the dancing started.

Choreography, Golden Hour, and a Very Good Dance Floor

Kerstin and Sawyer had choreographed their signature dances, and they committed. Fully! Those moments brought another side of their personalities forward, which I loved because these are two people who’d probably describe themselves as shy. You certainly wouldn’t know it looking through their gallery.

Their wedding is such a good example of why I’ll never accept “we’re not photo people” as evidence that someone won’t photograph beautifully. Give people enough comfort to be themselves, and suddenly there’s a whole lot more personality waiting there!

Later in the evening, we stepped outside again for golden-hour portraits. The sunset had been something Kerstin and Sawyer really hoped to incorporate into their day, and Newcastle delivered. We had the soft evening light, that huge view, and two newlyweds who’d already spent hours celebrating with everyone they loved.

By then, the nerves were long gone. They were married. They’d played golf and hugged what felt like half the planet. Now they just got to be together for a minute while the sun disappeared behind them.

Then, naturally, we went back inside and danced.

A Seattle Wedding That Felt Completely Like Kerstin + Sawyer

What I keep coming back to with this wedding is how much intention went into creating room for actual life to happen. Kerstin and Sawyer paid attention to the visual details and gave photography the time it needed, but they never lost sight of why everyone was there. They talked to their guests, stayed connected to each other, and let themselves enjoy the day they’d created.

Their photographs have the polished portraits they dreamed about, but they also have the laughs and the little interactions that happened when nobody was thinking about a camera. That’s what makes a gallery feel complete to me.

Years from now, I hope Kerstin and Sawyer look back at these photographs and remember far more than what everything looked like. I hope they remember exactly how it felt to have all of their favorite people in one place, the ridiculous joy of finally being married, and that little pocket of golden light where the world got quiet for a minute.

Because damn, this was a good one.
